This chart is, unfortunately, not completely comprehensive. Not all
births and marriages were recorded, not all records have survived to
the present day and not all surviving records have been indexed into
the IGI. There are 14 records pre-1700 which I have not been able to
link to the rest of the family. There is also a partial gap in the
records from about 1700-1770. Most of the records during and after
this gap cannot, at this time, be attached to the chart because no
links can be readily found. The normal process of matching common
christian names does not work here since the Bampton Carter's tended
to use only a small rnage of names - Edward, William and John
comprising at least half of all males.

The following chart is not intended to comprehensively cover each 
individual listed, but rather to provide a summary. Further details 
are available in many cases, upon request. References ([..]) are 
likewise only general.

Abingdon is in the far north of Berkshire, about 5 miles south of 
Oxford. Bampton is in the south-west of Oxfordshire, about 13 miles
west of Oxford, near the Berkshire border.
